ASPHALT REPAVING

ASPHALT REPAVING

Repaving refers to the complete removal of old pavement and replacing it with new asphalt. During this process, the base and surface layers of asphalt are all replaced. The old asphalt will be removed by either an excavator or by using an asphalt planer. There are several reasons why we believe a parking lot should be completely torn out and started again, if there is severe cracking such as shattered areas or cracks that go to the full depth of the asphalt,  if your parking lot has standing water in a large area, elevations will be needing changed, lastly, if a parking lot is too full at other surrounding areas or if water goes back towards your building the parking lot will need to be removed. Once the asphalt is removed the base underneath will be examined and for thickness of the stones base and the quality of the stone. The stone base is then graded and checked be a laser to ensure the grade is correct. The stone is compacted then and the asphalt is applied in two different layers. The bottom layer will consist of 301 base asphalt which has larger stones in it. The surface layer is 448-1 asphalt which is a sandier mix with more liquid asphalt in it.

Smaller areas can also be repaired in a parking lot by performing the same steps.

At Hammett Asphalt we have all of the equipment needed to excavate, grade and pave a parking lot needing a full tear out. We also work with sub-contractors for large scale jobs to expedite the project.
